Things Change...

The best thing about my rented condo is the Olympic size swimming pool. Being a wise grandpa the pool is the reason I rented the condo. (That and the fact that my daughter picked it out for me before I moved to Florida.) A simple fact of life is that big pools attract grandsons.

Today I was sitting in the shaded area watching my 7 and 4 year old boys do their thing when I noticed the four young Black ladies swimming in the pool close to the children. What drew my attention was that the four women where paired off and romantically kissing each other.

I was startled and admittedly embarrassed and quit uncomfortable. 'Things have really changed in my lifetime,” I thought. “When four black females can openly swim and romantically kiss in a pool next two white kids in Florida.”

A few minutes later two White young ladies showed up and asked the Black ladies to leave. From where I sat I couldn't hear the conversation. But the Black ladies appeared to be on their way out before the other two women showed up anyway. One of the Blacks, a slender lady, was picked up a small dog. She seemed to rather sheepishly be agreeing with what one of the White Ladies was saying. All I could hear were the words “in front of the children.”

When my oldest daughter, who had been sunbathing at the other end of the pool, came over to collect the boys I asked what had happened.

“Oh,” she said. “They were telling them they couldn't let that dog run lose around the pool.”

Like I said things have changed

Really, I think for the better. Jesus did say, after all, that he had come not to condemn the world but to save it.
